Anyone who has ever been to counseling knows that it is difficult to find the right "fit" regarding a patient/ counselor relationship, but Kathy has made it an easy, effortless experience for me and my husband. She is unbiased, supportive and gives great guidance for utilizing techniques outside of the office. She has helped us communicate and listen better, and without her, our marriage would not be as strong as it is today.
This lady is not very compassionate and extremely judgmental...not very good traits as a counselor/therapist. I only had a couple of sessions with her before I found someone else who was 10 times better. The funny thing is years later when I needed a copy of my records and it was a pain...to say the least. She acted like she didn't want to give them to me, I spent an hour on the phone with her before finally hanging up. She kept giving me this thing about HIPPA and the records weren't going to help with the reason for what I needed them for, etc. I tried explaining to her that I am in the medical field and know HIPPA and know that according to HIPPA, I OWN MY MEDICAL RECORDS and it is a violation for her to withhold them from me. Once that point finally sunk in to her and she realized she was wrong and I was right, she proceeded to tell me about the "fee" and the "wait time." Once I told her I had no problem with paying the fee and am very patient with waiting, she never answered any of my emails, messages, calls, etc. to process the payment. Needless to say, I ended up not needing those records so in the end, it was irrelevant, but it reminded me of why I left the practice and why I should have listened to someone who warned me about her. I should have also listened to her reviews on healthgrades also, but oh well, you live and learn and no long term harm was done. I usually don't do reviews, but I am hoping that this will help someone in the future, especially veterans in a similar situation I was in. There are plenty of other people out there that are better, more compassionate, and are trained better on dealing with veterans and those with alcohol and/or substance abuse and mental health issues.
