This was a very peaceful, beautiful Park, with ample parking close to Beach access. Handicap accessible restrooms, although they are up a long ramp on a stilted building with shaded picnic tables underneath. The beach was clean and sand dunes where pretty. I'm not a camper about the campground looked awesome and shady. It was dog friendly. Walking out on the jetty was great for birding and photography. I will definitely be back, as I did not get tho see the store or Atalaya Castle.
I live about 15 miles from here and have a State Park Pass. I love going here with the dog during off season. The beach isn't crowded and the place is always clean. The beach is wider in this area as opposed to Myrtle Beach & a lot more natural. Campers seem to like it, they're on the other side of where most of the tourists go. There's a nice sidewalk along the entrance by the marsh area when coming into the park. I generally see an alligator sun bathing on one of the small islands in the marsh when coming in. They don't bother you as long as you don't bother them. It's really a nice place to take pics of the egrets but I mainly just go to the beach
Wildlife galore! If wildlife is what you are into, then put this place on your list! There are several alligators hanging out very close to/on the sidewalks, which is amazing to see. Dogs are allowed in all areas of the park, but please be careful with them in certain areas. This is also a great place to go birding. I’m not too familiar with all of the different bird species, but we saw some beautiful ones while we were there...and tons of them! Wonderful park, we loved everything second of our visit!
The campground is excellent. There's good facilities for RVs, and a few rustic tent camping spots that are tucked away for privacy but with easy access to restrooms and showers.
Huntington Beach State Park is a precious place. The beach itself is superb - white sand with high dunes and a wonderful walk out to the jetty. The diversity of animal life is enormous considering the relatively small size of the park. The causeway gives you your first good look at the park, and it is breathtaking. You can't stop there, but no worries - park just on the other side and walk along both sides. You'll likely see great blue herons, white egrets, and anhingas, and depending on the season you may see roseate spoonbills, wood storks, and more. For those who want to know more about the area, you have the opportunity to see rice gates up close and learn more about rice culture in South Carolina.
Even though I only live about 30 Miles from HBSP I never had the pleasure of visiting until this past summer. My cousin had her little boy’s birthday party there. It was honestly so much fun. The perfect idea. The beach was great, the water was perfect, there is plenty of parking, clean restrooms, showers, & there is even a gift shop just in case you need to buy a boogie board or a gift for someone.
